Is it continuum correct parenting to use a high chair?
There are folks who would say no, but I don't see the issue myself. It is, after all, just a chair with an attached table.
I think that it would be wise to avoid using it as a restraining device, but I don't see what on earth the problem would be with sitting in it to eat.
I purchased an extremely versatile high chair. It can adjusted to 7 or 8 different height positions and used as a chair by removing the tray. It has an extremely wide leg base so it didn't tip or rock regardless of the angle of attack from a climbing toddler.
When my daughter was young and we lived in a small apartment, we used to eat in our living room on the floor (using bed trays). We just set her high chair to the lowest position, which put her at our eye level and we all ate together.
When she was 18 mos old we moved into a house. We continued to use the high chair with her. Our table was a small drop-leaf table and it tipped very easily so I wasn't too comfortable with her sitting at it as a very slight pressure on the top made it tip.
It seems to me that we started using the high chair as a chair alone when my son was much younger, probably before he was a year old, but we had a larger and sturdier table by then.
